How, run out of fuel make a run to get another, but I don't think the dead are rising soon. But yet this has interested me enough to borrow 2nd Platoon's Sergeant's Zombie Survival Guide... I'll make sure you lose it myself, just to prove the futility of machines in the zed age. Me and my crew will throw you out of it by force and use it for spare parts. and the best part is, you won't see it coming. Charging a fully loaded UH-60 is suicide, that 50mm chaingun on the door mounts, .60 cal on each side, thirty fully ready to rumble troopers can fit in the Cargo Hold, with some rocketpods, zeds wont stand a chance, and we won't have to worry about them getting back up cause they will be in pieces. Which is safer, on the ground or in the air with very little exposure on the ground, but you'll need a base of operations. So the flight crew can sink.

Just watch when you pick up survivors or fuel.

Okay, I would only refuel at a secured military base, and besides why would you want to destory something that your in while its 500 ft in the air? Parachutes and Helicopter blades don't mix...something about updrafts and um sharp spinning 50lb blades....yeah...

Okay. Horses, best transport. After breeding there will be enough for everybody in a group, plus food is more plentiful than petrol for your cars

About horses, They suck for transport. First off = You need skill to ride them period. Second off = They can buck you off, possibly with a broken leg or some other injurie, and then they'll run off nieghing, calling the zombies to that position unintentionally.

It kind of seems hard to choose which is better. Cars don't require much training and don't attract zombies as much, but run on limited fuel and probably can't be used if roads are blocked, which they frequently will be.
Horses are good if you're trained with them, but like samsbrumen said, they are more likely to become injured or attract more undead.
If I had to pick a good vehicle, I'd probably go for a pickup truck, or something similar that could go off-road. Fuel would be hard to come by, but at least you could get around for a while with less chance of getting bitten. Half a tank of gas would be enough to at least get you away from the more densely infected areas.
OT: There's probably no sense in even mentioning this, but you know what'd really be great in a zombie apocalypse? The flying car.

ooc: How am I a racist?!!! OOC: Because you touch yourself at night. Seriously, we're all a little racist, just like how we're all a little gay. Its just to what extent. And remember, most stereotypes are based on some truth. BOT: Okay, what I would do in a zombie apocolypse (besides ICing with Jax) is get two nice, very accurate pistols (Any SIGs will do), hole up somewhere safe, like my own house (trust me, the way my condo is structured, the zombies would NEVER be able to get in), and drink myself stupid.

I'm sticking with semi-auto and single shot firearms. Rifles, revolvers, shotguns, basically high fire power with control. Any full auto weapons will be traded with other groups.
Speaking of trade we should work out a system for what things are worth, money is surely out of the question.

I wouldn't use rifles because most of the time, I'll be in an urban environment, or indoors. Rifles would be too cumbersome to wield and manuever inside a house.

However, on top of a building, or in a large place like a warehouse, they'd be pretty good. Right?

No I do not own a trench coat and anyone seen with one on will be shot for general stupidity. I do however have a cowboy hat but that comes from actualy being a cowboy. If you see a pale, nerdy kid with one on, DON'T SHOOT ME! The only reson I would be wearing that thing is it's 20+ pockets to carry ammo. 10/10 Pretty simple, I live in a small, non-busy town which would give me a few hours after the news. I can hop the fence behind me house, hi-jack an 18-wheeler, pick up my friends, and barracade the VERY nearby K-Mart in that time. Also the whole time, I would have a scuicide vest ready.

8/10 well first of all, i can take the halo 2 strategy, i own 2 paint ball guns, to stun or make the zombies fall, and a glock to shoot em in the head while there down.
or
now i live in the whitest town in new york, massapequa. but i used to live in west babylon, so i can get some old friends who most of them are gangsters and thugz to help me out. one of them owns an AK47 so I'm in the money with that.
or
get over to Compton and keep myself safe.

Ya this thread is old, but I figured I'd add my part.
Now I'd say I have a damn high chance, however alot of factors come into play, some key points are:
-How early on in the apocalypse do I realize what is happening I live in Los Angeles, so if I'm like a lot of these movies where everyone puts their thumbs in their eyes and walks around going "DUR DUR DUR" then I'd probably have millions of zombies on my ass before I could even consider my options.
Realistically with as much media attention as every kind of outbreak gets in this day and age I'd say I'd have an idea something serious was happening when the first horde of undead started moving around picking people off. Or to give the zombies the benefit of the doubt when roughly 10% of the city was zombies. For this I will stick with the benefit of the doubt scenario where things start to become apparently wrong around 10%, now that's also assuming that I am "NOT" ground zero for the outbreak, as if it were then simply driving down to San Diego to pick up the family and moving over to Nevada would be an easy option given that you know which back roads to take.
-What kind of Zombies are we talking about?
Is this the classic "Night of the Living Dead" Zombies that lurch forward at a slow pace or the "28 Days Later" deal where they can haul ass like at track and field competitor? Or a combination of the two like in "Dawn of the Dead" the 2004 re-make? Let us say that the norm is slow zombies with a few runners mixed in, none of this sprinter BS but they can pick up a decent pace.
So... let us say that we have a 10% city wide outbreak when first realization occurs, with scattered infections all across the Country (United states for me). We have mostly slow hordes of zombies with a few that can pick up a lurching jog.
Now I would give myself a 9/10 of surviving at least the 1st year and an 8.5/10 of surviving the following 5 years.
My reasoning:
Upon first realizing that a "zombie" epidemic has started in LA I would try to contact my family. Assuming that my family isn't dead and can move I would direct them to Camp Pendleton a well established US Marine Corp base. Getting in would be easy as my Brother is in fact a Marine on that base and lives there. So thus there would be no turning away the family (well at least for my brother anyhow...).
That said and done I would rally my fellow Army Cadets, most of which (including myself) are both Prior Service Army soldiers and have weapons ranging from pistols to scoped rifles. 75% of us are Expert marksman by Military standards, this is out of roughly 30 Cadets. I would rally those that I can to our operation station out of Cal State Northridge University, a wide open campus with numerous entrances and exits. After assembling we would take 2 mini-buses we have at the University.
Taking the 2 buses and 2 of the Four wheel Drive trucks two of the cadets have we would establish a convoy down to Camp Pendleton, roughly an hour to hour and a half drive by freeway. Assuming the freeways are blocked we would use back roads, since many of the cadets lived here their whole life and many of our phones have GPS in them finding a way besides the freeway should be simple enough. Couple this with advanced map reading skills and we should arrive at Pendleton in roughly 3-4 hours max.
From their we would assume our duties as Military personal, fighting off zombie hordes in surrounding cities.
In the case of the Camp falling, we would be able to be evacuated out by one of the many aerial, aquatic or amphibious transports the Marines Camp has available to them (As for transport, we have 4 ex-airforce 2 of which are certified pilots, 2 of our cadets are Ex-Marines who have piloted many of the crafts, I myself can Pilot one of the boats with a little trial and error). From their there are hundreds of Military bases in the United States. Including Hawaii. Thus my options from here would be to either take a transport to Hawaii and regroup at one of the Naval or Army Bases there or Move towards Alaska where a Military base exists as well.
From there being a US Army Paratrooper I would most likely be asked to drop via Parachute into states across the US to help in an effort to stabilize sections of the country or for rescue missions.
The morale of the story is, the US Military are fucking bad asses, seriously... don't screw with us zombie scum. One way or another we would solve this problem and survive. It might take a few decades, but we would re-establish stability.
Personal Survival Attributes:
-I am in great athletic condition: Thanks to Army training, and I can out run any have decayed zombie there is. I run 2 miles in 14 Min flat, on average. And I have a high endurance from strain from the body. A side note: I would NEVER fight a zombie in hand to hand... that is fucking stupid.. that's like fighting some one with Ebola, you're just asking to get infected.
-I am a superior Marksman: I can hit 3 out of 4 targets at 300 meters with my M-16A2 Rifle or M-4 Carbine on any given day. This is without a scope, using just regular iron sights.
-I have Military Clearance: In my possession is a Military SMART card w/ data chip that allows me access on to any military instillation under US control. Two words, Fort Knox. This includes access to MRE or Meals Ready to Eat. A small, never expiring package of food given to military personal, one of these can last you for a whole day, two if you don't mind feeling hungry all day. Also to address the concerns that a military base would not last long you are wrong... plan and simple... no other way to say it, if you would like i can go further on this in another post, but trust me, you are wrong. (I can debate this in both a real life, hypothetical or movie perspective and still say, you are wrong in saying a fully operational military base would not be able to hold off a zombie invasion for an extended period)
-Military Tactics Training: I have both Forest and Urban combat training. Enough said.
-I have seen every zombie movie/game made by man in the last 10 years: ..This include B-Movies and Film Festivals...
My personal opinion is that no matter what you can only get 9/10 on this, there is always the possibility of you just being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting bitten.
