This RP popped out of my head, but it's actually an amalgam of el scorpio's ideas.
Story Summary:
Long ago when the West was still young, and the only law was survival, there existed a town that attempted to bring order to the wild West. They locked up their criminals in a huge prison out in the middle of the desert. With the eyes of the general public far away in the town, the warden and guards in charge of the prison are free to run things as they see fit. They frequently abuse the inmates and force them into humiliating competitions of strength and speed, betting on the outcomes.
However, there were some new inmates who, by chance (or maybe fate), happened upon an ancient text which described a prophesy of the apocalypse. These men gathered disciples in secret among the other inmates, and prepared for the day when the gates of hell would be thrown open
That wasn't too corny, was it? So, it starts out in the prison with the inmates, guards, etc. This is basically the first phase. There's no real rules here. It's a rough prison where anything goes. The only certainty is that the cultists' plan will come to pass, which will throw us into the second phase. At that point, various inmates will be transformed into hideous bloodthirsty creatures. As before, pretty much anything goes.
Joining the RP and Character Choices: For phase one, you can be pretty much anyone you want, as long as they're in the prison. Cultists, inmates, guards, whatever. Once phase two begins, new people will get the chance to join in, and people whose characters were killed off earlier can start new ones. Phase two will most likely introduce the nearest town as part of the setting, so new characters could be general cowboys, sheriffs, outlaws, native Americans and more.
Rules: Not many. The main rule will be that no main characters will be killed unless they agree to have their character killed off (or they do something suicidally stupid). Similarly, not all of the inmates will become monsters. If some people choose not to be monsters, that's their business. Also, this should go without saying, but no trenchcoating. Keep it realistic and introduce changes to the story a little at the time, not all at once. If someone makes a post that totally ruins the continuity, I will not hesitate to delete it.
So, let's just try to relax and have fun with this one. At the very least, we can guarantee this will have a few surprises.
Current Characters: Name - Character Name - very brief description
Tycoonius - James "Jimmy" Carter (no relation to future presidents) - corrupt guard (will later become one of the monsters) Cleon/Andwoo - Ajax - cultist (plans to change sides later) Grigori - Gabriel Mackerson - inmate, innocently convicted lone0soldier - John "Bilk" Maheaha - inmate el scorpio - James Jonah 'J.J.' Lazarus - sadistic guard Dr. Fhorsaken - Dr. Marcus Hobson - wuss Biased Apathy/Rei/Jaxcell - Misami Loenstern - inmate, convicted for multiple murders
chuck11 - {needs a name} - good guard Oh, something I forgot to mention earlier: The cultists are very secretive about what they do, so other inmates will not know they're cultists. Unless they tell someone, only other cultists will know.
UPDATE: Phase Two has started, so if you're just joining us, the prison is swarming with mutants and hellspawn.

Gabriel Mackerson- A local gunslinger who was pulled into an unfortunate fight at a saloon that left 2 people dead. Now he is a prisoner at this place for a crime he was not responsible for. He is about 23, fairly well built, and he prefers a shotgun as his weapon, although he will use anything.

Ajax: 20 years old. Tall, very muscular, long-haired, and violent. A boxer, street fighter, and martial artist.
He hasn't told anyone his real name, because everyone just calls him Ajax, after the ancient Greek warrior-king. Since he shares similar qualities to the ancient Greek hero, the nickname stuck. Arrested for killing three deputies and two civilians during a bank robbery, he joined the secretive prison cult to take revenge on the COs for humiliating him. His biggest weakness is that he's too c*cky. This could get him killed.
OOC: Once the monsters rampage, I'll realize my error and join in the escape.
BTW If you're thinking "Cleon, why the hell is your character muscular, athletic, and a boxing-karate champ? OMFG that's not fair!!!11" Its cause he's modeled after ME. I can't change what I am.

John "Bilk" Maheaha(pronounced Ma-He-Ha): A relatively Strong person, but with a good sense of when not to fight but to run, will do absoloutely anything to stay alive, is considered very cunning. If someone earns his trust he will also do anything to keep them alive. His preferred weapon is Twin daggers which he is VERY experienced with. (Please don't turn this guy into a monster)

James Jonah 'J.J.' Lazarus, one of the more sadistic of the guards, looks for any excuse to kill one of the convicts, and is usually charged with running down escapees, which he tends to draw out for as long as he can for the 'thrill of the hunt'. Uses a lever action rifle and has a grey horse he calls 'Righteous'.
I'll probably go monster, I can have a lot of fun warping this guys inner evil into a physical form
ooc: very nice Ty, by the way, if we turn into monsters, are the monsters appearances up to us? Daryl got him some inspiration

Can the prison have a resident doctor?
If so, I call it.
Dr. Marcus Hobson - a fairly weak man, only standing at five foot 2 and being as thin as a stick. He's very anti-violent, and has a habit of biting his nails.

Daryl got him some inspiration I was originally thinking something along the lines of either The Suffering or that movie Shapeshifter (which I'll be shocked if anyone but me has seen it), but it's pretty much up to you. Things would be more interesting if they all look different, after all. Can the prison have a resident doctor? Sure, as long as he's in the prison.

So like, are we gonna start, or should we wait for some more guys? Only Jax and Rakk would be left. Jax hopefully, but I don't think Rakk.

OOC: Yeah, I guess we can start now. This thing's maleable enough to add new people whenever, so it shouldn't be a problem.
One thing, though. I forgot to name the prison and town. Ideas?
IC:
As the sun rises on a new day, the inmates are treated to a rude awakening by Carter's voice as he walks up and down the halls.
"Rise and shine, ladies. Breakfast will be served in the dining hall in five minutes, so if you don't get your asses up now, you're not eating 'til dinner."
I stop and talk to some guards hanging around outside the warden's office.
"So, what do you guys feel like today? We did races yesterday, so I'm thinking today we could try some boxing. I've already picked some good matches."
"Sounds good to me. How many rounds per match?" One guard asks.
"Rounds? Why bother with all that? Just let 'em beat the crap out of each other 'til one can't take it anymore." I reply with an wicked grin.

OOC: Hmm...Creedence State Penitentiary in Texicano Gulch? IC:
I groan as I slowly open my eyes and rise up from my bed. "Can't they let us sleep for more than 5 hours at least once?" I rhetorically ask my cellmates, referring to how they made us stay up until 1am last night to run races around the rec yard.
Still tired, drousy, and very grumpy, I angrily shove one of the inmates who was blocking the cell door.
I can't wait until we do this thing... I think to myself as I pass a CO. Soon, they'll get their comupence, once the other guys gather the rest of the items we need for the ritual.

ooc: same here, mostly 1st person
Clutching my rifle, I stand in the hall with the other guards watching the inmates trudge their way to the dining hall. My mind wanders, I start thinking about gunning them down right now, they don't deserve any better. Maybe I'll get lucky, and one of them will try to run during the matches, I'll let him get far enough to taste freedom, then BAM, three nights with the doc and maybe fourteen in solitary.

I proceeded to eat my gruel, watching the guards with contempt."They Will pay" I said quietly to myself "tis' only a matter of time".I held back an evil smirk at the though of disembowling them alive.
Some of the other inmates are acting rather strange, though I shouldn't really butt into their affairs, it has peaked my curiosity.

Sitting in a secluded table, away from the noncultists, I plan with my fellow doers of wrong. "So, you guys got everything we need, right?" I ask in a whisper while leaning in close to our leader. "I wanna pay these goddamn guards back, already..."
OOC: This is the Old West, right? .....were there Asians in the old west who talked normally? I ain't gonna be "Rootin'-tootin'" or "Tarnation!"....

Looking through his half moon glasses, Dr. Marcus Hobson continued to read Moby Dick.
Three seperate guards had asked him to get off his ass, but the works of Herman Melville were so intruiging...

"F*ck you!" I yell out, through the anonymity of the crwod. Many inmates burst out into laughter.

I fire my rifle into the air to quell the noise
'Good news fellas, your buddy just bought you all some extra work detail, unless he would like to come forward.'
Silence, the convicts are more than willing to take the fall for one of their own.
'I thought not'
On my way out I push one of the inmates face first into his bowl.

My face covered in gruel I looked at the guard with nothing short of hatred, but my mind too preoccupied with other things drifted over to what "Ajax" said. Something about paying the guards back , though I hadn't heard what was said before that. If he was going to pay the guards back then I would not be in the way to stop him.

OOC: Hey, I want to be a good guard, is that okay? I'm that guy that feels sorry for the inmates, and helps them out in the end.
IC: *I watch as the guards harass the inmates* Guys, seriously. Give them a break. We had them up all last night running them. I mean, you can only make a man do so much... *I see (Lonesoldier?) shooting daggers at the boss and walk up to him with a hankerchief* You alright? They can be dicks sometimes. *I look around nervously* Listen, they've got another event planned for you guys today. I wanted to tell you so you can get ready. Its another boxing competition.... Random Guard: Boy, I dunno what your telling that inmate, but it had better be a death threat. Yessir! -loudly- IF YOU DO THAT AGAIN I'M GONNA BE FORCED TO USE THIS GUN! *Walks away awkwardly...*

OOC: Go for it. You'll be the only good one in the history of man...XD IC:
"I don't understand why you white guys talk like that..." I say to my fellow cultists.
"Well, we was just raise like this..." Answered one of them with a shrug.
"Hmm. I don't even know what 'tarnation' is supposed to mean..." I say.
"Well, you speak pretty strange for an Oriental, Ajax..." commented another.

OOC: You check the first page if you need everyone's names. In fact, I believe you need one yourself, Chuck.
IC:
The rest of the meal is uneventful. After the inmates finish eating, the guards lead them all out into the courtyard. Carter is already out there with a list of names.
"Now the way this works is pretty simple. I'm gonna pick two of y'all off this list, and you're gonna come forward and stand right here in this square." he says, pointing to a square drawn in the dirt. "After you hear the bell ring, come out fightin'. Whoever gets knocked down and can't get up before a count of 10 loses. And for a little extra incentive to win, the loser is gonna get to run 5 extra laps this afternoon.
"Now, let's see who's up first..."
OOC: I figure throwing someone in without asking would be kind of mean, so is there anyone who wants to be in the first match? It can be two of you against each other, or just one against a made up opponent.

I ride out on old Righteous, circling the courtyard, slowly, like a vulture waiting for a starving steer to drop dead, only difference was, I'm hoping for somebody to run before I drop them.

They call my name from the list and several guards shove me into the ring. "I know this Oriental. He can fight very well." Says the CO next to the one with the list. "Give him a...bigger opponent."
