So, I was chatting with DarkStar, one of my good friends. He just recently bought his own domain, and gave me my own section all to myself, with unlimited bandwith.
So I thought to myself. "Maybe we could attempt moving the entire forum off to a private host..." Considering we failed last time we tried moving...I wasn't too sure about this. There are some advantages to be had this time, rather than moving for the hell of it.
It's SMF. It's a hell of a lot more efficient, therefore it'll be faster, and there'll be less oddities.
It's privately hosted. Meaning half the internet ALSO isn't using the server, meaning there should be little slowdown. Also, this means you can curse and be as blasphemous as you want, without fear of getting the forum shut down for ToS violations.
Because it's SMF, all admins are equal. I'll still be master administrator, but you won't need me around to screw with certain things that the master admin can only screw with. Hence, when I go on one of my little hiatuses, the entire board can carry on should something come up.
Also because it's SMF, there'll be REAL chat. Not like the chatbox up top, but more like real time, don't-have-to-reload-every-time chat.
No ads. I myself use adblock, but if you find yourself getting annoyed by the ads here and you don't have adblock, then this is a plus.
Before we go off and do this, I'd like everyone's input. I know it failed every time in the past, but I'm thinking this would probably be more successful than the previous efforts if we were to do this.

Also, I've got the board up and running here: anti.necrolounge.org/forum/index.phpAnother advantage is that I can change registration dates. So your seniority carries over. I can also make you an alias kind of like what we have on this forum. I have no idea if they are admin-assigned. And yet another advantage is I can assign custom titles on a by-member basis. So if Cleon wanted the title "Psychic Afro Dancer" as his title, I wouldn't have to make another membergroup just for him. |

I wouldn't be really for it. Too much history here to move over. Also, I never had any problem with ads, they're small and inoffensive, occasionally funny. and I never had slowdown either, this board always went fast for me.

Though, if i have to switch over, i wouldnt be too upset. So long as i can still poke around here for the archive threads =p

Well, that's the problem. Proboards uses a proprietary database for it's posts, not a form of SQL. Hence, it's impossible for me to just export the database and import it into SMF. Which sucks mightily since if I could do that the switchover would be a no-brainer. Also, the reason I'm also sorta pushing for a switch is because Proboards v5 Looks like...well...too little, too late to be honest. |

I'd like it better if we ran both forums side by side. Start a couple new threads on the necrolounge board, and continue what we have here. Over time, if people actually like the new digs enough, a serious migration could be made. Then, we'll maintain this board as a sort of archive of our past exploits, and in some ways, a warning to future generations.

I had another use for the board if you guys didn't want to make use of it. Hence why I haven't messed around with the install too much.
But something important - I administrate this entire forum. This is not the main necrolounge.org forum, this is the forum on my subdomain. It's all mine.

Okay, so you have your own forum and you want to just move this over? Despite being able to do what the hell you want on your new one? Despite being the moral pillar of greatness here, I suggest you take the selfish route and use your new forum to do your own thing. We stay here and do the spam, RP and occasional UDing. But you should make a more personalised use of your new space now that you have some with free reign. |

I mean, it'd be like a big copy and paste that would like stops ads and giv greater load speeds for the internet challenged? |

Proboards provides these things for free because they think they can get ad revenue. They're not just going to let people copy whole forums off of their servers. |
