Credits go to ManliestMan for this:
Urban Dead is all about zombies. I mean, think about it, it’s called Urban DEAD, not Urban Humans (maybe just because that’s a crappy title…irrelevant). However, many zombie players feel frustrated as zombies (or zeds) seem to be deeply underpowered when compared to humans. However, there are many ways that zombies are superior to humans, mostly because they eat brains(which is an excellent way to reduce grocery bills).
In my experience, there are two types of zombie player. There is the horde player, the one who travels in a 50+ swarm smashing ‘cades en masse and consuming their share of the brains. Then there is the lone feral, who travels in tiny swarms only by coincidence, hunting for his food with help. Both have their merits but each requires a different sort of person, as well as a different skill progression. Here I have done my best to find a good skill progression to get the most from your zombie depending how you play it. Keep in mind as well, that this progression assumes you started as a zombie and thus have Vigor Mortis as a starting skill. If you’re a ex-breather then Vigor Mortis should be the first skill you pick up, as it is essential for leveling up.
Skill Progression: Horde Player
1st: Death Grip (Claws are much more accurate than teeth resulting in better hitting)
2nd: Rend Flesh (That extra damage means an extra exp for every hit)
3rd: Tangling Grasp (Hitting more often, how can that be bad?)
4th: Lurching Gait (Good for conserving AP for attacking buildings)
5th: Ankle Grab (You will be head-shotted, this makes it…nicer)
6th: Scent Fear (Needed for others, that’s about it)
7th: Scent Blood (Find the weakling, eat their brains, more exp)
8th: Memories of Life (Up until now the older zeds should be opening doors or at least dragging bodies out for you, now it’s your turn to help)
9th: Feeding Groan (Bring the horde to you)
10th: Scent Trail (No horde target? Get DNA scanned? Follow the trail to human flavored goodness)
11th: Ransack (No more barricades here)
12th: Death Rattle (Let your brethren, and meals understand your plans a bit better)
13th: Flailing Gesture (Makes Death Rattle more understandable)
14th: Feeding Drag (You’re strong enough, bring some bodies out for the young’uns)
15th: Neck Lurch (Might as well get this sometime)
16th: Digestion (Not really that useful)
17th: Infection (Not to useful as you shouldn’t leave many survivors, good if you’re just bugging around though)
18th: Scent Death (Really, useless in my opinion but yay, level!)
19th: Brain Rot (Congrats, you’re know a full fledged career zombie!)
Skill Progression: Lone Feral
1st: Memories of Life (Essential to get to those tasty brains)
2nd: Death Grip (More hitting = Good)
3rd: Rend Flesh (More damage = Good too)
4th: Tangling Grasp (Even more hitting = Even more good)
5th: Lurching Gait (Saves AP)
6th: Ankle Grab (Saves more AP)
7th: Scent Fear (Opens the “scent” tree)
8th: Scent Trail (Leads you to food!!!)
9th: Feeding Groan (Bring some other loners to give you a hand)
10th: Neck Lurch (Topping them off with a bite? Sounds fun)
11th: Digestion (Not so much useful itself but allows infection)
12th: Infection (Can’t finish off your food? Give ‘em something to remember you by)
13th: Scent Blood (Let’s you kill the right people for maximum exp)
14th: Ransack (The building stays open!)
15th: Flailing Gesture (Zombie Disco?)
16th: Death Rattle (Singing Zombie Disco?)
17th: Feeding Drag (Support young zeds! Drag a survivor today)
18th: Scent Death (You can smell bodies that you could see a second later anyway! Woo?)
19th: Brain Rot (You’re a zombie for life now!)
On your way up to that final Brain Rot expect to get combat revived quite often. As such, it is useful to have perhaps a bit of experience sitting on the side in case of such occurrence. Diagnosis is useful as it allows you to take that one skill instead of the two to get Scent Blood. Necrotech Employment is more useful for horde players as it identifies targets better/buildings to avoid are easily marked. Body Building is good for the lone feral to stay undead and not…unundead. Also, while you’re breathing for this brief period of time, be sure to pick up a Flak jacket, as they keep you standing much longer. When you’re done with this living crap throw yourself out a window, or even better, feed the young zeds! Sacrificing yourself promotes growth for the horde!!!
Quick Tips:
- Join a group! It increases the fun!
- Always kill the wounded survivor, the bonus 10 exp for kill someone is useful!
- Have fun and eat many brains!!! BARHAH!!!
