The idea of Monroeville was a stroke of genius. It offered something which really stood out, (and promoted the movie quite well to UD fans). As Monroville's quarantine tightens up, I begin to wonder, could this kind of thing continue on?
Of course, it doesn't necessarily have to be Monroeville, but what about a random town, created once every one or two months, operating without Necrotech facilities?
Give the city a certain period of time in which new characters can be created. The first fortnight, for example. Then close up the borders, and let them duke it out. Survivors who live to the end can be featured on a list on the Wiki, or UD site. Also, notable zombies, perhaps those who raked in high kill counts, or who killed the first and last humans, could be featured as well.
You could have one or two of these towns running at a time. While one town is in its opening month, the other town is enduring through its second. That way, every fortnight, people have the opportunity to try their hand at a new place.
With the towns being created (by design or chance, or both?) each round, survivors would have a hard time finding maps, which feels natural for such environments. It would sure encourage active exploration, and productive radio chatter.
I don't know what kind of server requirements would be needed for this, or indeed what kind of extra loads Monroeville required, but if this idea was implemented, I'd sure be interested in it.
I know I was supposed to keep this simple... sorry. I'm hopelessly fluent in Ramblish.

Yes, I know we have Monroeville. But for how long? With the tightened quarantine, soon there'll be no more fresh brains. Only a matter of time before the guys upstairs nuke the place.
Monroeville WILL close down, eventually. Of that, I'm certain. And I'm not saying put up a new place right now. Also, I'm not asking for another actual Monroeville. What I'm asking for is a passing of the torch. A new town, so that when Monroeville is gone, another place can be opened.
I love Malton, and want it around forever. But it's really nice having a different slice of zombie pie, at the same time. I like the idea of temporary townships. Sort of a tournament flavor to the ongoing struggle between Survivors and Zombies.
Let's say you've got a character, Colonel Survivor. And he manages to get to be lvl 20, and survives for the whole 1-2 month duration of the town. He gets his name on the leaderboard, and life is coming up roses. But now the town's gone. But what's this? Yet another town has just been discovered to be infested with the walking dead. You can log into this new town with the same name, Colonel Survivor, but you're lvl 1 again, and start from scratch. You can try taking yourself in a whole new direction.
I think this would keep a fresh experience, and maybe help give you new insights for your character(s) in Malton.

I think Kevan is doing this for a sort of trial. If it's successful, and the people like it, then he'll do it again. Judging by the reception the new city is getting, I'm sure he will.

I agree but I suspect he will require some form of payment eventually, as he is doing this out of his own pocket, save for those who actually donate.

I love the idea behind Monroeville as it gives a chance for an equally good fight. It starts off slow but that makes you find your place. Plus it gives a chance to test out new ideas, I think, you know? things to perhaps add to Malton. Hey Kan Should we use these boards to discuss our survival strategies?
