The AP system is there to keep a limit on actions in a given time.
What you seem to be suggesting is that instead of an AP limit, the actions should be whatever you can do in one session before logging out.
In a situation like that a single zombie could devastate a large crowd, and ransack their safehouse single handed. It would be kinda chaotic.

Yeah. Personally, i stay logged in while waiting for AP to recharge rather than logging out, and i know some people who keep their PC's turned on indefinitely because they're running servers.. so, in theory, a singled login session could last... ohhhh..... going on a month, barring any system/power failures?
The AP system is in place, primarily, to give a feeling of desperation for survivors. You don't have TIME to take a leisurely stroll down the avenue searching every mailbox for shotgun shells, your exhausted and running for your life and if you don't hurry up your going to be trapped on the streets at night! UD doesn't have a graphic interface properly, so it relies on a kind of "time limit" to provide tension.
That and this way it stops every unemployed gamer geek herming UD for 24 hours straight and amassing enough supplies to invade Iraq.

I think there's a game called outbreak or something.
You kill demon NPCs. No playin limit. If that's what you're after.
