Hello, I have to admit while online RPGs and MMORPGs are nothing new for me, that text passed ones are something I'm getting used to being a very visual person.
However! The conflict I see is that while perhaps having visuals is fun and all, zombie survival games are much higher on the list of "Things that are cool and fun to play". (plus you don't have to pay 19.95 a month to play)
I recently created my character Captain J. Wolf, US Army.
I have heard the Disgruntled Heroes are looking for recruits. I'm still very low level but would like to start moving towards their section of town soon once I have rested. So far I've come up empty handed looking for supplies and I'm out of ammo after a conflict with a zombie. right now I'm holed up in a bank somewhere in the city. Once I awake I will be a little more descriptive.
Ayn advice to keeping myself alive?

First off, stay away from malls. The recent tour is causing large crowds of zeds either around malls, or the most direct routes between them.
Second, plan your routes, try to end up in a safehouse when you log out. Safehouses with a few survivors sometimes help, they might heal you up, or tell you the latest news.
Third, check out hospitals and police stations for First aid kits and ammo. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Along the lines of what Scorpio said, you should know where you're going before you get there. Here's a reliable map you can use: redrum.soul-fantasy.net/map.phpAlso, I'm sure you've heard this one by now, but get freerunning. It will be your friend.

Free running is indeed a skill. It allows you to get into buildings that have been barricaded (but not completly barricaded).
and it allows you to get from one building to another without going into the streets saving you some AP.

A potential Disgruntled! Excellent. As they said, the map and free running are two of the more important resources you can have: use them often.
As staying away from malls go, there are a few exceptions. Mitchem Mall in Vinetown, for example is now completely safe, and with regular revives at the Bhore Monument in the same suburb. There is also a regular safehouse operated by the Army of Dave at Caunt Street PD, although it gets raided a lot and I'm not sure if it's safe yet. I'll get back to you on that.
EDIT: Nope. Very not safe.

I like the WIKI maps wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/VinetownThe advantate is most burbs have barracade maps also (although vinetown seems not to have one) as you see in pennyheights. Also great for revive points. wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Penny_HeightsVery useful when trying to find those VS buildings go get into so you can sleep the night. Also the wiki main page full of guides (skills, where to get items etc.) wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Main_PageAs a recent newbie some very important things I found (the hard way) out. - Don't start looking for a VS(very strong) barracaded building with 5AP left, and use any barracade maps as a rough guild, not gospel. If you do, you'll find out quickly why I said don't . edit- in case you haven't found out. Any building above very strong means you can't get in (even with freerun) but everyone likes fully barracaded (extreamly heavy) buildings as they are safer. So barracade plans have been made to make sure most building are fully done, with some only at VS so you can still get in. Quiet often the VS buildings are resource buildings so newbs can still get ammo, first aid etc. but the zombies know this and so those are fav targets. That is why freerun is good to get quickly so you dont' have to sleep in one of those. - APs are everything, do everything to conserve them. If you're zombie hunting, find a VS building first. Then you don't have to break off an zed attack with 15ap to hunt around for one, find it, and then spend AP going back to the zombie and also going back again to the VS house to rest. Also if you're hunting Zeds, walk past buildings and make note of the strength, if you pass a VS one you've got your house searching for free. - Again with AP, best to hunt with a full 50AP. One because you're more likely to get a kill, two because it again cuts down on AP use with traveling around. - Looking for ammo is best at places with lighting otherwise you waste more time searching. Police depts only at first as you can't get into malls without freerun (they are always extra heavy barracades). Since you get 10 extra exp for a kill, it's better to load up to the balls (at a lit Police D) with guns and ammo and then go hunting to make sure you get that 10xp. Don't forget to buy a skill as soon as you have the exp. - If you have a choice between attacking a lone zed or a stack I'd go for the stack, it's more likely to have a crippled zed in it. Note, read the sprayings on the walls and revive posts on the wiki, you dont' want to be hitting a revive point. - As an ammo user, love shopping and bargin hunting as it's the quickest way to get ammo/weapons. But only after getting freerunning as you can't get into malls to shop without it anyway. - Always keep at least one first aid kit (fak) handy in case you get infected. (lose 1 hp per move). - If you have freerunning and have no clue where a VS building is, go to a large zed stack. Chances are they've busted down the area and you can get in there and use freerun to move (saved me more than once). Luck. T.

If you use Firefox for your browser, be sure to check out the Urban Dead Revive Radar, possibly the most usefull extension available.

Disgruntled potential! Wonderful. Like Grigori said, come to Vinetown, grab Free Running, the occasional revive at the Bhore Monument. We usually congregate wherever is safe in Vinetown, as you may have noted on our forums.

For zombies: Enter a building, then... GERONIMO!!! For humans: Wait. A very long time. At a graveyard/revive point.

I started playing about a week ago. I'm a fireman in Penny Heights killing zombies trying to get more skills.

Nice choice going with Fireman. You've already got an axe and axe training. Once you get the melee skill, you'll be a lean, mean killing machine. Of course, you might want to wait on that and get Free Running first instead. It can be a real life saver.

To level up, kill each other, collect various items that make you stronger, and to survive.

UDToolbarIt comes with that graphics pack. Unfortunately, the stable build only works with some older versions of Firefox. Supposedly, the dev build works with Firefox 2.0 and up, but some people complained that some features don't work.
