Alright. This game. Wow. If you read a lot of TV Tropes, you may have heard of this game. But you probably haven't. It's a freeware game, designed completely by one guy, who is likely insane. It's Roguelike, which means that graphics are practically non-existent, and the whole game is modeled in ASCII. But that doesn't really matter, because if there's one word to describe this game, it would be: Deep. In terms of gameplay, it's a fortress builder, a lot like the game Stronghold if you've ever played it. Only there's just so much shit you can do, to a ridiculous level. Which makes it incredibly hard to get in to, and the learning curve is like running headlong into a brick wall. But it's addicting as hell once you do get the hang of it, I swear, I haven't slept well in 3 nights. I strongly recommend trying this out. The game itself can be found here, the invaluable wiki guide here. Before either of those, here's some required reading which might make you want to play. It did for me, anyways.

Been meaning to. The only thing I don't like about Rougelikes, despite thier usual depth, is that the controls aren't streamlined.
But yeah, I'll have to try this now.

OH GODS ITS SPREAD HERE!
*Douses Grigori with Napalm and then a blast with a flame thrower*
PURGE IT WITH FIRE!
Oh and yes I have played the game and ran headlong into the wall... and then again and again and watched all my dwarves die many a time before I learned how hard it is to play.
I wish they would make an awesome new 3D version that was easier to play... So at least I could understand it somewhat.

You have to have the whole thing in a folder, like when it's compressed. If you take out the run file it'll run, but you won't be able to load saves. Personally, I've gotten the hang of the game, but only with beaucoup help from the wiki guides. One of the more useful things I learned, though, is to use the z-levels as much as possible (they didn't exst in older versions, though). It saves a ton of space, not to mention marksdwarves on top of fortified firing platforms overlooking a moat beat just about everything. At least for now they do, anyways.

Yeah. It works now.
Those frigging miners falling alseep on the job.
And the wiki is invaluable.
...Also, I a bit scared for my fortress. The random name for it was "Deathbread".
The next Boatmurdered, perhaps? ;D
Yeah, prolly not.

Thank Armok, no. Those sadists aren't in sight.
I've got a good operation started. I've got enough food to last until I get a farm started up, my tunnels are about half-way done, and as soon as my Mason wakes up, she'll be completing her workshop and using the ridiculous amount of rock we've mined.
Dolomite, anyone?

The hardest motherfucking rock this side of Adamantine!
No, not really.
I love how you can do just about anything you want with this game. For example, just in case I ever get particularly annoyed by a certain noble, I installed a channel attached to my pre-existing moat, along with a small network of levers and floodgates. Now, all I have to do is lock them in their rooms and pull a lever outside to... dispose of them. I'm imagining passing off the grates in their bedroom ceilings as 'air vents'.

Oh teach me, wise Dwarf-Master!
*Worships Grig's Evilness at getting rid of those frigging Nobles.*
I haven't had the misfortune of having any yet, but that may be because my Dwarves are still alseep! That friggin rock isn't that comfy!

Don't make me build FORTRESS GRIGORI... where upon all travelers will disappear in the night but the next day the newest travelers will get to taste delicious meat pastry.

The butcher won't use dwarf meat for some reason, or goblin meat. Bunch of spoiled little.... it'd be better than eating raw plump helmets in the dark, at least. Actually, most common meat in my fort is Unicorn. Suck it, elves!
