(Too much reading? Skip to the end for The Short Version)
Attacking a village successfully isn't hard, but it does require some planning if you want to ensure your success. The cost of failure isn't very high (about 55 stamina and a lost spy), but you're only allowed one or two attacks per day, so you'll want to make them count. Here is a general guide to effective village attacks.
Special Note for Invasions: Check on the village main page next to "Planning to Invade"; if it does not say that the Invasion is ready, then naturally you can't invade. Come back later when the time is right if you want to continue, or just wait if there are only a few minutes left.
Special Note for When Things Go Missing: If you can't find the village you want to attack in the bingo or attack menus, either somebody else has attacked them first, or that village has used Interrogators to eliminate our spy. You'll be able to see this in the Messages on the main village screen. Either pick a different village (for Raiding), or ask a Vice Kage to change the Invasion preps (if you were planning on Invading).
Step 0: Have R00t Themes Active
Do you have The Wind, The Sun and The Rain active? Of course you do. You're a major-league, phase-crushing R00t-rank bad-ass. Skip to Step 2, then skip everything else and get to stealing ryo and resources like a boss.
If, however, you're not that awesome yet, or you just forgot to activate those themes, continue to Step 1.
Step 1: Prepare Yourself
Attacking villages isn't always a walk in the park. Can you beat a 30-Difficulty-30-Success check without allies or jutsu? If so, skip to Step 2.
Now, I don't mean to discourage anybody. There are villages in our tier with lower difficulty, and you'll have a chance to preview the challenge before you actually attack. Just make sure you know what you're in for; don't bite off more than you can chew.
If you're still not confident, though, you might want to better arm yourself. Check the village page on the wiki for a list of items that help with attacking. Someone will probably let you have a Codec if you don't have one, and there is plenty of Ashen War Paint in the storehouse.
Lastly, you may wind up needing some Juicy Apples if you have to bingo the Kage. If you can't get any, that's okay, but they're good to have.
Step 2: Choose a Village
If you're choosing to Invade, you can skip to Step 3.
If you're going to Raid a village, you'll want to choose carefully. The amount of ryo you steal is determined by that village's total ryo stores, so the more they have, the more you steal. How do you know how much they have?
Scroll down to the Spying Report and click Go to Spy Report. There you will find all the villages that Nexus had spies in when the report was made. Check the date and time at the top first. The longer out-of-date the report is, the less accurate it may be. If it's more than a day out of date, bug a Vice Kage to get off their ass and pull a fresh report already.
Pick a few candidate villages with high ryo totals. You only take 1% of their total when you raid (unless you have The A-Team, and even then it's only 2%). I say to pick a few because some will be easier to attack than others, and it's possible a few rooted out our spies since the report was made.
Step 3: Check for Ascension
The Ascension theme is a major obstacle to village attacks. Most village leaders will have it. The question is whether or not they're using it.
Click Refresh Messages / Show All under the Messages on the village page. Use Find (Ctrl-f in most browsers) to search for the name of the village you're interested in. You're looking for a message that looks something like this:
Spy Success (date and time): Somebody has infiltrated a spy into VillageName Village! Their leader is Ascended!
VillageName should be the name you were just searching for, obviously. If the message says "Their leader is NOT Ascended!" then that is good news. Check the date and time of that spy success. If it was in the last day or so, and it wasn't on a holiday like the 24th or the last day of a month (a lot of people use filler themes those days), then there's a good chance that Kage is still not Ascended. If you're confident they're unprotected, then skip on to Step 5.
If the message says "Their leader is Ascended!" then this is going to be messy, maybe not even worth the effort. Choose a different village if you can. If not, Read Step 4 and decide if you want to continue.
If you can't find the Spy Success message (they get deleted after 3 days), or it doesn't include the bit about the leader being Ascended or not, then whether the Kage is Ascended is anybody's guess.
- If this is just a Raid and you don't mind potentially wasting an attack, you can go on to Step 5 and hope for the best, but more likely you'll want to just pick a different village.
- If it's an Invasion you're looking at, don't take unnecessary chances. It takes time to change Invasion preps. Go to Step 4 if you really want to continue, but it might be better to let one of those R00t-level epic ninja handle this one.
Step 4: Defeating a Kage
Ugh, not good. The Kage is Ascended, or at least likely so. The best case scenario now involves spending another 50 stamina to bingo the Kage.
Before you go any further, go to the Bingo Book. Click on or choose the village you're interested in, and click on the Kage's name to bring up their player look-up page (their name will be the one at the top in bold). Look at their stats and consider whether you're strong enough to bingo this person without a note page (they're probably note protected if they bother to use Ascension, but not always). If they're a KaijuKage, it's even harder. Among other things, they have 100 extra HP, and likely have capped their stats for their season.
There is more, though. Ascended Kages are likely to have a Reversing Hourglass active. You'll want to use Juicy Apples to check afterward, but odds are that you'll have to bingo them twice to make sure it sticks.
They might also have Bingo Armors. I'll talk more about this in the How to Bingo a Kage thread.
So, as you can see, it's quite an undertaking. Even for those who are strong enough to bingo a Tier-3 Kage, it may not be worth the time and resources spent. No one would blame you for backing out (or choosing a different village for Raids).
If you really want to take on the Kage, though, I'll offer the best advice I can. Read my How to Bingo a Kage guide for more on that.
If you somehow manage to bingo the Kage and you're absolutely sure they're still bingo'd afterward (via Juicy Apple confirmation), then congratulations! You have a one hour window to attack their village. Get to it!
Step 5: Attack!
The time has come to strike. If you have The A-Team, equip them now. No other teammates will help you here. If you have the Super Frog summon, you may use him now.
Go to the Attack Other Villages page. Find the name of the village you want. If you're doing the Invasion, the village name will be in bold.
Special note for Invasions: If you see a message like "May Invade in 13 min!" next to the name, it means the Invasion is not ready yet (and you didn't read this guide very well). DO NOT attack that village before the Invasion is ready, or the preparations will be wasted. If there is less than an hour to go (or you skipped Step 4), just wait for the preps to finish. Otherwise, you have to back out for now.
Choose the village you want. The next page will show a preview of the challenge you will face. You need to get enough successes in at least two out of three stats to succeed. If you're sure you can beat the challenge, continue.
Step 6:
Did you pass the challenge? If so, go on to Step 7. Otherwise, better luck next time.
Step 7: Profit!
You did it! You stole a bunch of ryo or resources from that village. You proved yourself a competent attacker, and maybe even earned yourself some RP in the process. Nice job!

- Invaders: Make sure the Invasion is ready
- Raiders: Click the Spy Report and pick a good target. More ryo is better.
